(Rome) -- The late Pope John Paul the Second and Pope John the 23rd will be made saints of the Roman Catholic Church. The Vatican made the announcement this morning. John Paul was Pope from 1978 until his death in 2005 and has been called the first "rock star" Pope, drawing huge crowds as he traveled the world. The Polish-born Pontiff worked to improve the Catholic Church's relations with other faiths. He survived an assassination attempt in 1981.
Pope John the 23rd was known as the "good pope." Vatican spokesman Father Federico Lombardi says Pope Francis waved the customary rules which require a second miracle after beatification. John the 23rd was beatified in 2000.
