In other news, Republican law makers have requested an investigation of Jay-Z and Beyonce's trip to Florida Reps. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen and Maria Diaz Balart sent a letter to the Director of the Office of Foreign Assets Control at the at the Treasury Department inquiring about the superstar couple's trip. A portion of the letter said, "We write to express concern and to request information regarding the highly publicized trip by U.S. musicians Beyoncé Knowles-Carter (Beyoncé) and Shawn Carter (Jay-Z) to Cuba. We would like to respectfully request, within all applicable rules and guidelines, information regarding the type of license that Beyoncé and Jay-Z received, for what purpose, and who approved such travel."Because of Cuba's previous open support of terrorism and its state-run tourism industry, the lawmakers addressed the longtime ban on tourist trips to Cuba and stating that monies spent there fund "oppression" by the Cuban regime. According Reuters, a source said that Jay-Z and Beyonce's trip was fully licensed by the U.S. Treasury Department.
